Dr. Nichole Perez Nieves

Hello my name is Nichole Perez-Nieves, and I was born in New York but was a military brat so moved all around until my father decided to retire in Kansas. I went to Kansas State University for my undergraduate degree where I graduated in 2019 with a major in Biology and minor in Spanish. I then attended Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine where I graduated with my DVM in 2023. From there, I quickly learned that I was passionate about veterinary Neurology, and decided to pursue further training and started with a small animal rotating internship at University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. Although many of us say it, I knew I wanted to work with animals since grade school but my passion for helping those without voices and their families only grew with time. I also felt strongly about helping to close the gap in veterinary medicine for those with communication barriers as I am bilingual and feel as though the Hispanic community can sometimes have barriers to care simply due to language. I am still very passionate about veterinary neurology and hope to one day continue further specialty training with a residency in Neurology. I find the combination of medicine and surgery that Neurology offers to be fascinating. 

I do have one dog at home and her name is Pepper alongside my husband and daughter. Outside of work, my favorite thing continues to be exploring coffee shops and going on walks. 

Fun fact:

I only like drinking coffee from local coffee shops. I will definitely drink any coffee but I can be a bit of a coffee snob.
